Detailed information

Whangamata Beach was voted one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand in 2018.  It is also one of New Zealand’s most famous surf breaks, particularly the Whangamata Bar. The left hand break attracts surfers from around the world. At either end of Whangamata Beach are estuaries that are great for exploring by kayak.

In December of 2021, Toes in the Water, a volunteer based group set up by the communicty of Whangamata successfully made Whangamata beach more accessible for everyone.   They raised money through local businesses, and the community to purchase beach wheelchairs, beach walkers, harnesses, matting, boardwalk and a shed for housing the equipment, that can be accessed by anyone.

They have the following equipment for hire.

– An adults and a child’s beach wheelchair
– Pivotfit harnesses for both wheelchairs and or a seatbelt
– Two adults beach walkers

Located on the beach front, beside Whangamata Surf Lifesaving Club in the Williamson Reserve.  To use the equipment, you will need to become a member which is easy to do from the website.

Check their website out for more information on how to book, and what you will need to do.
