Freedom Mobility provides rental cars to people with permanent or temporary disability, and those who care for people with disabilities. On this page we give answers to the most common questions people ask about driving in New Zealand with a disability.

What is the minimum/maximum hire period for a vehicle from Freedom Mobility?

The minimum hire period is 1 day – 24 hours. There is no maximum hire period.

Do I need to pay for mileage?

No. There is no limit to how far you can drive in our vehicles.

Who is insured to drive the vehicle?

Any number of licensed drivers can drive the vehicle.

Is it possible for me to hire a vehicle from one hiring centre and drop it another hiring centre?

Yes, this is possible and it is a frequent request. A one-way relocation charge is applicable. This covers our costs in returning the vehicle to its base.

What happens if my Freedom Mobility vehicle breaks down?

Will you meet me at the airport, and where?

Yes. We bring your vehicle to the airport for you. We will meet you with a sign after you clear Customs and come into the arrivals area of the terminal.

Where will I leave my vehicle at the airport, at the end of the hire period?

Can I hire other disability equipment from you?

I have small children. Do you provide child/booster seats?

Yes. We can do this at no extra charge. It is helpful for us to know the age, weight and height of the children.
