The first capital of New Zealand, Russell is a short ferry across the harbour from Paihia in the Bay of Islands. The ferry is wheelchair accessible. You can find out more about this by clicking here. Once in Russell, the township is very flat, with a number of nice eateries and things to do nearby. It is great to watch the sunset and enjoy the relaxed pace of the town. It is a great option for a day-trip from Paihia or Opua.
