Accessed from the 309 Road the Waiau falls are easy to find, and the kauri giants stand majestically above the forest tops. A short walk takes you to the base of these remnants of the ancient kauri forest that once cloaked these hills.
Freedom Mobility client feedback: “The majority of this forest path is accessible to a wheelchair user able to push over cobblestone-like levels of uneven ground. The path is a combination of leveled ground, hard packed crushed stone, and boardwalk. You can see good, close up views of giant Kauri trees. There are two sections with access difficulties: there’s a boardwalk lookout point that requires assistance to bump up, and the last section has a flight of stairs up to a boardwalked overlook (with the climb if you’re able to manage it). Avoiding those two points still provides good views and access” – Richard P.
